QTDI, with a generous grant support from the Mitrovica branch Danish Refugee Council (DRC) and Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA), was actively involved in supporting the student-led project “Greener Future for Vulnerable Communities,” an initiative focused on addressing air quality issues in areas of Mitrovica neighbourhoods predominantly inhabited by Roma, Ashkali, and Egyptian communities.
The initiative empowered students and staff from the QTDI and students of Public International Business College Mitrovica (IBCM) to develop and install air-quality monitoring sensors, thus raising awareness about environmental challenges disproportionately affecting marginalised communities. The project combined technical innovation with advocacy, aiming not only to collect data on pollution levels but also to engage local residents in conversations about their right to a healthier environment.
As a key outcome, two air-quality sensors, specifically designed to measure the presence of particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10) were installed in the Roma neighbourhood of Mitrovica. These sensors provide real-time data that can inform future interventions and support community-led advocacy for cleaner air and improved living conditions.
QTDI remains committed to supporting projects that link environmental justice with social inclusion, especially when driven by youth and focused on vulnerable populations.
